University of Basrah organizes an electronic symposium on cancer detection

College of Education for Women at the University of Basra organized an electronic symposium entitled Detecting Cancer by Histology and Tumor Markers.

The symposium presented by Dr. Nour Abdel-Zahra Ali, a lecturer at the College of Osoul El-Din University, dealt with cancer as a heterogeneous disease that can be diagnosed by changes in tissue shape and mutation in genes and by tumor markers for example CEA, CA 19_9, etc.

The symposium indicated that the symptoms of cancer vary from one case to another depending on the patient, and they appear on fatigue, high temperature, the appearance of a mass or swelling that can be felt under the skin, changes in body weight, including an unintended increase or decrease in body weight, changes on the surface of the skin  And other symptoms.

The symposium dealt with the causes of cancer generation as a result of a mutation that occurs in a chain of deoxyribonucleic acid - DNA found in cells. This chain in the human body contains a set of orders prepared for the cells of the body that determine how they grow, develop and divide.  And that healthy cells sometimes tend to make changes in their DNA, but they are still able to correct the bulk of these changes, but if you are not able to make these corrections, the distorted cells often die, and these deviations are not correctable, which leads to the growth and transformation of these cells  into cancer cells.
