The College of Education for Women at the University of Basra organized an electronic symposium entitled Intellectual Extremism among University Youth: Causes and Remedies
The symposium presented by the instructor, Abdul Hamid Hayes Al Darwish from the University of Anbar, touched on intellectual extremism, which is one of the dangerous phenomena that threaten the security of society in general. However, it took on a new dimension in modern societies when extremism produced phenomena such as violence, terrorism, aggression against innocents and property, and the chaos of security in society.
Al-Darwish added that the university is part of society and its relationship with it is one of influence and influence. The violence and extremism that prevails in the university is due to the society in which the university is located, as contemporary society witnesses the absence of social responsibility and the rule of material values, the dissolution of family ties, moral weakness, the spread of corruption and the dissolution of the bond between Citizen and state.
And he indicated that the youth category represents an important component of the political movement in any society, and they are the most age groups affected by the factors of change that the society is going through in its stages of development, in addition to their enjoyment of a high degree of societal awareness, all of which makes them more targeted to represent one of the societal forces. The symposium concluded that the youth stage is one of the most stages of social development, in which its members become more prepared to practice violence than others, due to the nature of the physical and psychological characteristics that make them more emotional and aspiring to the future in order to achieve their selves.
