A master’s thesis at the University of Basra discussing the August 1956 crisis in North Korea and its repercussions

I discussed a master’s thesis at the College of Education for Girls entitled The August 1956 Crisis in North Korea and its Repercussions by researcher Hanan Hashem Abdel-Al.

The August crisis of 1956 is considered one of the most important internal events that North Korea witnessed, which had repercussions on state policy. It is the first crisis since its independence until the present time. Although it was an internal crisis, it was supported by external forces that had their own political interests in Korea.

In her study, the researcher relied on the methodology of uniting the topic while maintaining the chronology of the sequence of events, so the study was divided into an introduction and three chapters.

The study dealt with an introduction in which the roots of the Korean communist movement were presented until the independence of North Korea, and the first chapter addressed the causes of the August 1956 crisis there.

The second chapter dealt with the developments of the crisis and its outbreak in August 1956, and the third chapter talked about the repercussions of the political and economic crisis on North Korea.
