University of Basra organizes a seminar on methodological problems in textual studies

The Arabic Language Department at the College of Education for Girls organized a panel discussion entitled “Methodological Problems in Textual Studies,” presented by Dr. Dhafer Kazem Abdel Razzaq.

The episode discussed the foundations of systematic textual analysis and the problems of some Arabic textual studies, some of which are due to terminological problems or to efforts influenced by traditional perceptions.

 The episode touched on adopting foundations for sentence grammar without realizing the methodological differences between the two, even though they have some linguistic foundations in common. Among the most prominent issues of discussion are the concept of text, conditions of textuality, issues of cohesion and harmony, and the most prominent misconceptions regarding textual analysis.
