University of Basra organizes a symposium on the evolution of global population size for the period 1800-2048
The Geography Department, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Education for Girls, organized a symposium on the evolution of global population size for the period 1800-2048, presented by Dr. Murtada Muzaffar Al-Kaabi.
The symposium discussed population growth in the world, which is considered one of the most prominent demographic phenomena in the modern era, as the population is increasing at a rate greater than the rate of increase in economic development, and on the possibilities of providing food under the current circumstances.
The symposium focused on the development of the global population size for the period 1800 - 2048, as the global population size increased in 1800 to constitute (1 billion people) and reached (6 billion people) in 1999, and then it is expected that the world population will become (9 billion people) by the year 2028.
The symposium attributed the reason for the large increase in population in the world to several factors, the most important of which are: the improvement in the level of food, the development of industrialization, the development of the health situation, technological development, and the improvement of social conditions.
