The Arabic Language Department, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Education for Girls, organized a symposium on the poems The Flash and the Haiku...a critical introduction and poetic readings presented by Dr. Ali and the poet Balqis Khaled.

The symposium shed light on two modern poetic forms that moved from foreign literature to Arabic literature, and explained the origins of these two forms and the cultural context in which they were formed and appeared, and how the Arab creator received them and wrote according to them.

The symposium discussed the aesthetic advantages of each form and the extent to which it is close to other forms or similar to them in some characteristics, and clarified the changes that have occurred in these advantages in the Arab experience in a way that is compatible with the new cultural environment and Arab taste.

The symposium also included a poetry reading presented by the lecturer of examples of his poetic texts written within these two forms, the focus of the symposium’s discussion.
