The Women's Empowerment Unit at the College of Education for Girls, in cooperation with the Women's Empowerment Division at the University of Basra, held a symposium on women and contemporary issues according to Islamic thought, presented by female teachers Marwa Al-Yasiri, Duha Adel, Marwa Yasser Siwan, and Sari Mansour.

The symposium addressed several topics, including cases of killing women for reasons of honor and the position of Islamic legislation on them, as well as the psychological effects on women.

The symposium also touched on the freedom of a woman to choose a husband in Islamic legislation, and whether this choice has positive or negative psychological effects.
