The thesis was divided into three chapters, preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion. The first chapter dealt with the life and times of Ibn Asakir and his book, The History of Damascus.

The second chapter focused on the life of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), the motives for his holy revolution, and the reasons that led to his revolution against the unjust Umayyad rule.

The third chapter dealt with the important events that preceded the outbreak of the revolution and the departure of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), and the events that occurred after the end of the battle.
