University of Basra organizes a symposium on the scourge of drugs and its effects on the individual and society

The Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences, headed by the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Directorate for Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances in Basra, organized a symposium on the scourge of drugs and its effects on the individual and society.

The symposium touched on the definition of drugs, which are any substance that disturbs the mind and leads to addiction, and mentioned the types of drugs, including hashish, opium, and crystal.

The symposium discussed the causes of abuse, what is the evidence that indicates the abuser, how cases of addicts are monitored, and mentioned some live examples of incidents that occurred with addicts, and the effects resulting from drug abuse.

The symposium recommended a number of recommendations, including activating the role of educational counselors in schools and universities, and holding awareness seminars that highlight the dangers of addiction to human health and society.
