University of Basra organizes a scientific visit to the Chaldean Church of the Virgin Mary
The History Department at the College of Education for Girls organized a scientific visit to the Chaldean Church of the Virgin Mary in Basra, accompanied by a number of the department’s teachers and students.
The visit aimed to increase the knowledge of the first-year female students about the Christian religion, its three doctrines, and the internal systems of churches as part of the requirements for the Europe in the Middle Ages subject.
Bishop Imad Al-Banna touched on the Church of the Virgin Mary, as it is one of the oldest churches in Basra due to the history of its construction, and what distinguished it by its unique construction similar to the Italian church in (Badoi).
The visit discussed the policy of religious tolerance between Muslims and Christians, and the difference between a church and a monastery. What this church contributed to supporting schools, hospitals, and homes for the elderly.
The visit concluded with some questions posed by the male and female professors to the church leaders.
