The College of Education for Women at Basra University held a seminar on the Corona pandemic and its repercussions on the air transport sector in Iraq for the year 2020.
The seminar, which was organized by the Geography Department at the College of Education for Women and presented by Dr. Maha Shaker Jabr, dealt with the impact of the Corona pandemic on the Iraqi air transport sector in relation to all its sections, including travelers’ local and international flights and air freight. A comparison was made between the years (2019 and 2020) which revealed a difference between the two years.
Jabr added that the impact of Corona was not limited to trips only, but it also affected jobs that decreased dramatically, which lead many cadres to lose their jobs, and this had a great social impact as well.
The study concluded that the Iraqi air transport sector was tremendously affected by the pandemic, and it needs time to recover from this damage. In addition, the study recommended governmental support for this sector and the necessity of providing financial and banking facilities for it to recover.
