A lecturer at the University of Basra participated in the first scientific conference on combating poverty, held at the Shahid Cultural Foundation under the theme "Towards Sustainable Development and Poverty Reduction in Iraq."
Dr. Hanan Ahmed Abdul Karim, from the Department of Geography, College of Education for Girls, University of Basra, participated in the first scientific conference on combating poverty, held on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
The participation included presenting a paper entitled "Sustainable Development in Informal Settlements in Iraq: A Case Study of a Flexible Low-Cost Residential Area (as a Model)."
The research aimed to diagnose and identify the causes and factors contributing to poverty, measure the levels of poverty indicators and its various dimensions, and analyze its social and economic impact on society, leading to the development of effective strategies and policies to reduce and eliminate poverty and achieve sustainable development.
