The College of Education for Women at the University of Basra organized a seminar entitled "Biometric Security: Present and Future in Protecting Digital Identity," presented by Lecturer Ghadeer Raad Abdul Aziz, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

The seminar aimed to highlight the concept of biometric security and its role in enhancing digital identity protection amidst the rapid digital transformation the world is witnessing.

The seminar included an explanation of the concept of biometric security as a field concerned with protecting biometric data extracted from individuals' unique characteristics, such as fingerprints, facial features, iris scans, voice, and signatures, and how to utilize these characteristics for accurate and secure identity verification. The seminar also addressed the most important components of biometric systems, including sensors, feature extraction, matching mechanisms, and decision-making, emphasizing that each stage requires high levels of security to prevent any attempt to breach or manipulate data.

The session recommended the need to promote a culture of digital security and raise awareness about the importance of protecting biometric data to ensure the building of a secure and sustainable digital system.
