Seminar Titled “Social Discourse and Its Impact on Reinforcing and Ending Violence”

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Basrah and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education for Women, the College—represented by the Women’s Affairs Unit—organized an in-person seminar titled “Social Discourse and Its Impact on Reinforcing and Ending Violence.”

The seminar aimed to explore the concept of social discourse and its role in both reinforcing and reducing violence, as well as the role of societal institutions in ending violence in all its forms.

The seminar, delivered by Prof. Amal Mahdi Jabr and Assistant Lecturer Mutab Abdul Hussein, addressed the definition of social discourse, methods of reducing violence, and how society—through its various institutions—can influence the spread or reduction of different types of violence. The session also included interactive questions for students, encouraging their active participation and allowing them to express their views on the topics discussed.
