The University of Basrah has achieved notable progress in the 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, ranking 12th nationally among 92 participating Iraqi universities and 372nd globally among 1,745 participating universities.

This progress reflects the University’s continued efforts to improve its performance in sustainability and campus environmental indicators. Compared with the previous year, the University advanced by two positions nationally, 24 positions in Asia, and 61 positions globally.

President of the University of Basrah, Dr. Aqeel Fadhil Al-Dahan, praised the efforts of the Rankings Team and all university departments and institutions that contributed to achieving this progress. He emphasized the importance of continuing to improve sustainability indicators and strengthening environmental practices across the University, contributing to consolidating the University of Basrah’s position and presence at the local, regional, and international levels.

Dr. Al-Dahan congratulated all university staff, faculty members, employees, and students on this achievement, expressing his hopes for continued progress in upcoming rankings and academic achievements.
