The University of Basra is spearheading a qualitative shift in training in collaboration with the governorate's Oil and Gas Committee.

Dr. Aqeel Fadhil Al-Dahan, President of the University of Basra, received representatives of Iman Al-Maliki—a member of the Basra Provincial Council and Chair of the Oil and Gas Committee—to discuss and launch an exceptional, comprehensive training program in collaboration with the Basra Oil Company.
The meeting covered the details of the program, which targets—in its initial phase—students from the College of Engineering (specifically the Petroleum Engineering Department across the second, third, and fourth years) as well as providing a dedicated, independent track for College of Engineering graduates.aThe initiative is distinguished by its nature as a comprehensive annual program; it moves beyond the conventional one-month summer training model to span a full academic year, ensuring a deep understanding of practical aspects. It integrates theoretical lectures with hands-on application at work sites and laboratories to bridge the gap between academic curricula and modern labor market demands. The program employs a progressive learning approach, offering foundational content to students in their second through fourth years—as they are closest to entering the workforce—while also incorporating a specific component for graduates and aiming for future expansion to encompass all engineering disciplines.
