University of Basrah organizes a panel discussion on the theory of the hero
College of Education for Women at the University of Basra organized a panel discussion entitled The Theory of the Hero and the Possibility of Employing It in Rebuilding the Personality of the Iraqi Individual (Al-Hussein (Peace be upon him) as a model hero)
The seminar, which was held by the Department of History and presented by Dr. Nizar Ali Al-Hamada, addressed the importance of this topic from two sides. The first is that the title is a serious attempt to present an applied research in the field of history science and depart from the framework of classic research in the narration of historical events only, and the second aspect is that the topic of research deals with the personality of the Iraqi individual. Which has been affected by many distortions as a result of contemporary historical events such as wars and political crises.
The seminar added that the hero, despite the criticism this theory has received and the questions raised around it, is somewhat identical to what the Islamic religion came with on the one hand, and it can be the cure for what the Iraqi individual is going through today on the other hand. Orientalist Thomas Carlyle believes that the hero is Who puts history, not society, and an example of this is the radical transformations brought about by Islam with the presence of the Prophet, peace be upon him, as a historical hero.
The seminar concluded that the hero may be a writer, thinker, or leader, so the hero that Iraqi society needs today is the reformer. This is due to several reasons, including his position in the hearts of Iraqis and his ability to influence them through his symbolism, as well as his reformist approach, which was and still is a school from which revolutionaries and reformers draw.
