The Continuing Education Unit in the College of Education for Girls organized an electronic symposium on (the geographical determinants of the establishment of the Kurdish state)
The symposium presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Zubari Moanis aimed to clarify the set of natural and human geographical determinants facing the establishment of a Kurdish state in northern Iraq.
The symposium dealt with the natural obstacles represented in the problem of difficult terrain. The land of the Kurds consists of rugged mountain ranges that sometimes reach a great level of complexity. This terrain created the conditions for the protection and continuation of the Kurdish armed action for decades and at the same time preserved their heritage and culture, but it represented an element that hindered the establishment of the Kurdish state. unity and prevent their fragmentation, which helped the emergence of regionalism as well as defining its relations with neighboring countries.
In addition, the regional obstacles rejecting the establishment of a Kurdish state, even if it is partial, and Turkey stands at the forefront of this approach, as well as Iran, Iraq and Syria.
In addition to the weakness of the Kurdish economy due to the lack of natural resources and the difficulty of communicating with the outside world, this country will be imprisoned from the point of view of geography because it does not have a sea outlet.
In addition, international obstacles still refuse to redraw the map of the political region defined by the Sykes-Picot Agreement in 1916.
