A scientific study at the University of Basra by teacher Muhammad Hassan Obaid at the College of Education for Girls examined the visit of US Vice President Nixon to Ceylon and its role in the return of the Ceylonese-American rapprochement in 1953.
The study, which was published in the International Yamir Journal, classified within Scopus, showed that the important events that the country witnessed in 1953, especially with US President Eisenhower assuming power in the United States of America, to implement its foreign policy, which was intended to contain communism and limit its expansion in the continent of Asia.
The study concluded that the US President's tour was able to gradually restore relations between Ceylon and the United States of America
