A doctoral dissertation was discussed at the University of Basra, College of Education for Girls / Department of History, entitled “The Vision of the German Orientalists in Studying and Publishing the History of the Fatimid State (Heinz Halm as a Model) by the student Sondos Bandar Khazal
The study aimed to shed light on the interest of German orientalists in the history of the Fatimid state, because of this state's deep and comprehensive history in the Islamic world in the medieval era.
The study was divided into four chapters, preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion. The first chapter came with two chapters. The first chapter devoted itself to the history of German Orientalism, followed by the most important fields of German Orientalists. The second chapter dealt with German Orientalists and Fatimid history. It was a clear concern for German Orientalists in the history of the Fatimid state.
The second chapter dealt with the political reality of the Fatimid state from the point of view of the Orientalists
The third chapter dealt with the intellectual aspect of the Fatimids in the light of what the orientalist Halim dealt with in his book The Traditions of the Fatimids in Education.
The fourth chapter talked about the civilized aspect (which includes all of the economic, social and urban aspects
The study concluded that the orientalist Helm presented a huge study on Fatimid history, but he was unable to convey, in some cases, a true picture of what distinguished the Fatimids.
