The University of Basra organized a seminar entitled "Building a Responsible and Academically Committed University Community" to educate female students about their rights and obligations towards the university campus, aiming to create a healthy university environment that reflects the identity of the female student. The College of Education for Women, in cooperation with the Educational Guidance Unit, held the seminar in person.
The seminar's objectives were:
First, to prepare students to distinguish between rights and responsibilities.
Second, to highlight the importance of the university environment and educate students about preserving public property, reflecting a civilized and culturally rich university environment.
Third, to emphasize that students' understanding of their obligations towards the university campus is not only a legal duty but also a reflection of the culture and values of the community. The seminar included four main topics. The first topic was addressed by Professor Dr. Hanaa Abdel Nabi Kaban, Head of the Educational Guidance Unit. She discussed the importance of adhering to official working hours, attending lectures on time, and maintaining university and academic conduct standards that align with societal ethics, both religious and moral, in accordance with traditions and public order. She also addressed maintaining collegial relationships, interacting respectfully with faculty members, and finally, the importance of students' commitment to integrity and honesty in providing accurate information during registration, emphasizing the need for students to uphold good moral standards within the institution.
The second topic, presented by Dr. Hanan Ahmed Abdel Karim, focused on building a scientifically and academically responsible university community by preserving public property and maintaining security and peace to create a safe and environmentally friendly university environment. The third topic, presented by Assistant Lecturer Shireen Faisal Mahdi, focused on students' awareness of their rights guaranteed by the educational institution and how to balance these rights and responsibilities through the Higher Education and Scientific Research Student Discipline Law No. 160 of 2007. It also addressed the responsible use of social media, avoiding abuse and defamation.
The fourth topic, presented by Assistant Lecturer Shaimaa Khalaf Zayer, emphasized student conduct and ethics, as well as the importance of preserving state property and classrooms for a civilized university community.
