Doctoral thesis at the University of Basra discussing social welfare institutions in Andalusia and their role in public life

A doctoral thesis at the College of Education for Women at the University of Basra discussed social welfare institutions in Andalusia and their role in public life.

The thesis of the student Zainab Mahmoud Nasser included a preface and four chapters. The first chapter dealt with a brief presentation of the social welfare institutions in Andalusia, such as the Grievances Review Institution, health institutions, educational institutions, orphanages, prisons and others.

The second chapter dealt with the resources of social welfare institutions, and imprisonment was the first and in many cases the only source of spending on these social institutions.

The third chapter included the role of the state in monitoring these institutions, so the Hisbah in Andalusia was characterized by comprehensiveness in many areas of life.

The fourth chapter contained the role of social welfare institutions in Andalusia and what these institutions provided for the care of the poor and needy at all times, whether in normal days, or in periods of economic crises, which ensured a decent livelihood for humans, and emphasized the comprehensive concept of solidarity among Muslims.

The aim of the study was to know what was the nature of these institutions in the Andalusian Islamic civilization, and how they developed, as Muslims reached the pinnacle of sophistication, development and humanity.
