A scientific study at the University of Basra on Basra’s relationship with Bahrain in the nineteenth century AD

A scientific study at the College of Education for Girls dealt with Basra’s relationship with Bahrain in the nineteenth century AD in terms of commercial, navigational and political relations.

The study aims to shed light on the commercial and political relations between Basra and Bahrain due to their strategic importance in the Arabian Gulf region by following the historical approach during the modern era.

The study pointed out that Basra and Bahrain are among the most important countries of the Arabian Gulf, as the first is located in its north and controls navigation there, and the second is located in its east and controls its entrance. Commercial, political and military relations have developed between these two important ports.

Trade relations between Basra and Bahrain during the second half of the nineteenth century were often important, as trade that came to the port of Basra passed through the port of Bahrain, and was

As for military relations, most of the time the local government in Basra wanted to extend its influence and control over Bahrain as it was subject to Ottoman control at the time, in addition to that due to its commercial importance.
