Basra University organizes a symposium on false memories
The College of Education for Girls, in cooperation with the Center for Continuing Education, organized a symposium on false memories, presented by Dr. Rafif Al-Riahi, head of the Continuing Education Unit at the college.
The symposium touched on the definition of false memories, which are fabricated or distorted memories of an event. These memories may be completely false and imaginary, and in other cases they may contain elements of reality but have been distorted by overlapping information or other distortions in the memory.
The symposium discussed the causes of false memories, such as confusion, misleading information, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. False memories are treated by using psychotherapeutic techniques such as hypnosis and guided meditation as a means of recovering repressed memories.
